Surrounded by colorful mountains and breathtaking desert landscapes, Phoenix has boomed in popularity and is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. In this city in the desert, accessible through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), visitors find a thriving culinary scene, upscale shopping, art and music. Discover unique neighborhoods throughout the city, each with its own personality. Explore Scottsdale or Paradise Valley for upscale hotels, fine-dining and busy nightlife. Or wander the Tempe Mill Avenue District for weekend farmer’s markets and restaurants, just steps away from Arizona State University. And an outdoor-lover’s paradise awaits, offering hikes of Camelback Mountain and within driving distance of the Grand Canyon. 

With well over 400,000 flights that service more than 44 million people annually, Phoenix Sky Harbor International serves as the largest and busiest airport complex in Arizona. Flights arrive via one of PHX’s three terminals, linked by walkways and SkyTrain service. Use the SkyTrain to directly as Terminal 3, which serves Delta flights.

OUTDOORS

Between the buildings and neighborhoods, it’s easy to spot nearby mountains to explore. For nearby hiking, explore Camelback Mountain or Piestewa Peak. Topping out at 1,000 feet, they offer excellent hiking, rock climbing and views of the city. Close to Camelback, you’ll even find great restaurants, golf and some of the city’s best hotels. For longer hikes, considering renting a car. Drive a short 2-3 hours from Sky Harbor International to find some of the nation’s most-incredible wonders in Sedona, Flagstaff and at The Grand Canyon.

DINING

Phoenix offers a wide variety, combining local ingredients and global flavors. If you’re looking to explore a bit, try the Roosevelt Row Arts District — known as RoRo — for some of the city’s best coffee and unique eats. For upscale dining, nightlife and hotels, head to Scottsdale or Paradise Valley. Try the Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley, a chic hotel with beloved restaurants. In Scottsdale, enjoy fine-dining at Monarch, well-crafted pizza at CRAFT 64 or visit modern speakeasy Second Story Liquor Bar

FAMILY

If you’re looking for something to do as a group, The Heard Museum provides a personal, exceptional lens into American Indian art and history, with a focus on the tribes of the Southwest, and its collection is engaging for all ages. The Desert Botanical Garden also has something for everyone, and is regarded as an excellent introduction to the unique desert ecology of the region.

While warmer in the summer, Phoenix residents enjoy moderate temperatures in the 70s for most months — perfect weather for biking, golfing, swimming, hiking or enjoying the outdoors at one of Phoenix’s many resorts or parks. On average, Phoenix receives little rainfall year-round. Check the forecast but you’re probably safe to leave the rain gear at home. Pack layers to enjoy the sun during the day with a jacket or sweater in the evening, since nights in this dry region can feel quite cool.
