Membership Guide & Program Rules

When you’re a SkyMiles® Member, it’s good to have a handle on the rules of the program. The more you know about SkyMiles, the more you can take advantage of the benefits and make the most of your membership.

Members are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules and with the other terms and conditions that apply to travel on Delta. For questions regarding the rules that are applicable to a specific situation, please check delta.com, contact a Delta representative for guidance, or use the Help Center to give us a call or message us directly.

Account Usage and Restrictions

Conditions of Enrollment

Delta’s SkyMiles program is open to any individual person in any country that has not prohibited participation in frequent flyer programs and where participation is not otherwise prohibited by applicable law.

Except as otherwise expressly provided, corporations and business entities cannot be enrolled as Members.  Some corporations and business entities may be eligible for our SkyMiles for Business Program, which is a travel rewards program for small- to medium-sized businesses. For more information and eligibility, visit delta.com/skybonus.

Members must provide their full legal name to participate in the SkyMiles program. Full name means the first (given) name, middle initial or middle name, if any, and family name (surname). The full name must be the same as the name on the Member's passport or other valid travel document (i.e. Visa, Resident Alien Card, etc.). Members will be assigned an individual membership number upon enrollment and can access a digital membership card via My Wallet in the Fly Delta app. Members can also print a membership card by going to My SkyMiles.

Membership numbers are nontransferable.

Only one person may be enrolled per SkyMiles account.  Members may not maintain more than one SkyMiles account. In the event more than one account number is assigned to the same individual, the duplicate account may be cancelled or merged, in Delta’s sole discretion, and Delta may elect in its sole discretion to transfer the applicable mileage balance, excluding any enrollment bonus, to the remaining account. Credit toward Medallion Status and Million Miler status will not be transferred.

Members who wish to enroll their child who is younger than the age of 13 in the SkyMiles Program can sign up the child for SkyMiles here and will need to check the box confirming the Member is the parent or guardian of the child after entering the child’s birthday.

All benefits that Delta offers in the SkyMiles Program are conditioned upon the Member’s acceptance of and compliance with this Membership Guide and Program Rules, the Terms of Use and other terms and conditions described elsewhere throughout delta.com, all terms and conditions of Delta’s contract of carriage, Delta’s fare rules and all other applicable Delta rules and regulations, which are all subject to change at any time. A Member’s enrollment and continued participation in the SkyMiles Program constitute that Member’s acceptance of the Program Rules, which form a contract between the Member and Delta. In addition, all mileage earned is also subject to compliance with all requirements of the individual partner’s mileage offer, including but not limited to membership in the partner’s loyalty program in some cases. Unless otherwise stated, the current rules in effect at the time of travel or request for a benefit or other transaction will govern that transaction. Delta has the sole right to interpret and apply this Membership Guide and Program Rules. Please check back frequently for program updates or rule changes.

SkyMiles Password

Members can access their SkyMiles information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using their SkyMiles number and password. A Member must establish a password upon initiating enrollment in the SkyMiles Program. Without a password, certain transactions may only be done via mail or in person with a Member’s SkyMiles card and valid government-issued identification.

A Member’s password cannot be viewed or changed by a Delta representative. If a Member would like to change his or her password, go to Change Password. If a Member cannot remember his or her password, an email with a secure link to change his or her password will be sent to the Member. For Members who would like to request an e-mail with a secure link to update their passwords, please go to Forgot Password.

Each Member is responsible for the selection and use of their password and for maintaining the confidentiality of such password. No Member may not divulge his or her password to anyone. Members cannot share their password with other individuals, including, but not limited to, for the purpose of sharing a SkyMiles account. Each Member is solely responsible for any actions taken with his or her password, including without limitation any transactions in their account, any violations of the SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules, and any further disclosure of a Member’s personal information or password. Delta shall have no liability for losses resulting from unauthorized access to, or use of, the Member’s password.

Each Member’s account information is owned by and proprietary to Delta. Members must access their SkyMiles account information directly through the Delta website or Fly Delta App, and cannot use their SkyMiles account log-in credentials on, or otherwise provide access to, their SkyMiles account to any person or third-party website or app, including but not limited to, any mileage management service, mileage tracking service, or mileage aggregation service.  Enabling access to a Member’s account information without visiting the Delta website or Fly Delta App is a violation of these Program Rules.

Name and Address Changes

Each Member is responsible for promptly notifying Delta of any name, email, phone number or address change on his or her account. A Member’s name in his or her SkyMiles account (first, middle and last) must match exactly the name on that Member’s government-issued photo ID used when traveling.

Country of residence is determined by the primary address in the Member’s SkyMiles account. Delta reserves the right to audit an account at any time for address accuracy, residency requirements, request further supporting documentation and update the address for any Member’s SkyMiles account using the National Change of Address (NCOA) data filed by relocating postal customers but shall have no obligation to do so. Accounts found in violation are subject to penalty, up to and including termination of Medallion Status and closure of the SkyMiles account.

Account Closure & Mileage Expiration

Under the SkyMiles Mileage Expiration policy, miles do not expire. Delta reserves the right to deactivate or close an account (and accordingly remove all miles in the account) under the following circumstances:

  • Fraudulent activity occurs.
  • A Member requests an account closure. SkyMiles Members may request an account closure at https://www.delta.com/us/en/need-help/support-skymiles by submitting a request under “All Other Requests.”
  • A Member is deceased.
  • A Member does not respond to repeated communication attempts regarding the status of his/her account.
  • A Member creates additional accounts under his/her name.
  • A Member resides in or relocates to a country where membership is prohibited under applicable law.
  • A Member violates the terms of this Membership Guide and Program Rules or any terms and conditions of a SkyMiles partner offer or other program.

Medallion Status, benefits, and/or miles in the SkyMiles account will be forfeited when an account is closed. Upon account closure, you will be unsubscribed from marketing emails, but Delta will retain your SkyMiles number assigned to basic information. To exercise a right you may have under privacy law with respect to your SkyMiles account, please review the Delta Privacy Policy.

Prohibited Actions

Restrictions on Transfer

Miles are not the property of any Member. Except as specifically authorized in the Membership Guide and Program Rules or otherwise in writing by an officer of Delta, miles may not be sold, attached, seized, levied upon, pledged, or transferred under any circumstances, including, without limitation, by operation of law, upon death, or in connection with any domestic relations dispute and/or legal proceeding.

Sale or Barter Prohibited

Except as set forth below, the sale or barter of miles, vouchers, Award Tickets, upgrade certificates, Medallion Status, Medallion benefits, or any other benefit by SkyMiles Members, or the attempt of any of the foregoing, is prohibited. Delta will terminate or deduct mileage from the account of any Member who violates this rule either by attempting to transfer or receive, or actually transferring, facilitating or receiving such benefits. Award Tickets, upgrade certificates, Medallion Status, or Medallion benefits obtained through prohibited sale or barter transactions are VOID, invalid for travel, and will be confiscated. Persons trying to use such tickets and/or benefits will not be permitted to travel unless they purchase a new ticket from Delta at the applicable fare. Delta reserves the right to assess the fair market value of any of the foregoing tickets and/or benefits from the SkyMiles Member initiating or facilitating the prohibited transaction.

SkyMiles Members may participate in mileage transfer transactions within the SkyMiles Transfer Miles Program. All transactions are subject to the terms and conditions of the SkyMiles Transfer Miles Program. Mileage transfer fees and terms and condition apply. Please visit delta.com/transfermiles to review these rules.

Audit

Delta reserves the right to audit Members’ accounts at any time and without notice to ensure compliance with the SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules, Delta’s contract of carriage, Delta’s fare rules, and all other applicable Delta rules and regulations (including individual offers, benefits, and partner programs).

In the event the audit reveals discrepancies or violations, Delta may (i) delay the processing of miles, MQDs, Medallion Status, Award Tickets, or other redemptions, (ii) decline to award and/or cancel any of the foregoing, and/or (iii) suspend benefit and account access until the discrepancies or violations are resolved. Accounts found in violation are subject to penalty, up to and including revocation of awarded miles, MQDs, and other benefits in connection with such violations, termination of Medallion Status, and closure of the SkyMiles account. During an investigation, Delta may inhibit access to the SkyMiles account of a Member without notice. While the account is inhibited, Delta may permit the Member to accrue miles and MQDs in the account, but no mileage redemptions or other transactions will be permitted and any outstanding Award Travel, upgrade certificates, or other redemptions will be canceled. Canceled Award Tickets or upgrade certificates must be surrendered to Delta upon Delta’s request.

Termination and/or Mileage Deduction for Violations

Delta reserves the right to terminate a Member’s membership in the SkyMiles program (including Medallion Status, Million Miler qualification including any complimentary annual Medallion Status associated with the Million Miler qualification, and invitation or participation in the 360 Program) at any time if a Member violates the SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules (including, for the avoidance of doubt, on the basis of documented abusive behavior), any term or condition of Delta’s contract of carriage, Delta’s fare rules, or any other Delta rule and regulation that apply to the Member’s travel (including individual offers, benefits, and partner programs). If a SkyMiles Member has Medallion Status, a 360 Program invitation, or SkyMiles membership terminated or revoked at any time, Delta reserves the right to refuse or discontinue annual Medallion Status and/or invitations to the 360 Program offered as part of the Million Miler Program benefits. Delta reserves the right to revoke or declined to offer annual Medallion Status or 360 Program invitations for abusive behavior or for any violation of its policies, the Program Rules, or ticketing rules.  Termination of a Member’s membership will result in a loss of all accumulated mileage credit in such Member’s account, the cancellation of any unused Award Tickets or upgrade certificates, and the loss of all other SkyMiles benefits. Terminated Members are not eligible to participate in any aspect of the SkyMiles program, including without limitation any special promotions or SkyMiles partnership offers. In lieu of termination, Delta may at its sole discretion deduct mileage from the Member’s account but permit the Member to continue participating in the SkyMiles program. Members whose accounts have been terminated for any reason may not reopen new accounts.

Abusive behavior means behavior that is directed at a Delta Employee, ambassador, or another passenger, during travel or interactions with Delta’s Reservations or Customer Care personnel, where the passenger’s conduct is disorderly, abusive or violent, including without limitation:

  1. Personal threats toward a Delta employee or ambassador (whether in person or by phone/messaging), or another passenger while in a Delta facility;
  2. Excessive/repeated obscene or profane language directed toward a Delta employee or ambassador;
  3. Insults or slurs directed toward a Delta employee or ambassador; or
  4. Intentional destruction of Delta property.

Statements and Posting

SkyMiles Statements

SkyMiles online statements are sent periodically (monthly, quarterly or based on recent activity) to Members through an email reminder, regardless of activity. Members can enroll to receive their SkyMiles statement by going to My Profile, entering their SkyMiles number and password, and updating their Communication Preferences

Members should retain their ticket receipts and boarding passes until mileage credit appears on their SkyMiles statement.

Current balance, account activity, redemption, and Program information may be obtained at My SkyMiles on delta.com or in the Fly Delta App, or via Delta’s automated telephone number (1-800-323-2323), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Posting Mileage Credit and MQDs

Mileage earned under the SkyMiles program are typically credited to a Member’s account within eight weeks after qualifying activity occurs, unless otherwise stated in the individual offer, benefit, or partner’s terms and conditions. Please review the posting timeline in the applicable offer’s terms and conditions and wait at least 7 days after conclusion of such time before submitting a request for missing mileage credit.  Partner offers are subject to the terms and conditions of each individual offer and are subject to the partner’s timely and accurate reporting of the eligible transaction. See individual offers, benefits, or partner terms and conditions for details. SkyMiles partners, offers and benefits subject to change. To ensure credit:

  • For air travel: A Member needs to provide his or her SkyMiles number at time of booking or check-in for each flight. Both name and date of birth on the reservation must match the name and date of birth on the SkyMiles account and Member traveling for mileage to be credited, regardless of who paid for the ticket. Flight activity must be completed before miles and/or Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) will be credited to a Member’s account.
  • Hotel and car rental partners:  A Member needs to provide his or her SkyMiles account number and name as shown on his or her SkyMiles membership card at time of hotel check-in or car rental pickup. Mileage is credited only to the Member whose name appears on the bill for the hotel stay or car rental. Miles will be credited to a Member’s account within 8 weeks of check-out and/or car rental return.
  • All other partners: A Member needs to provide his or her SkyMiles number and name as shown on the Member’s SkyMiles membership card at the time of transaction or satisfy the registration requirements specified in the mileage offer terms.
  • Compliance: Mileage earned is subject to compliance with all requirements of the individual partner’s mileage offer, such as in some cases membership in the partner’s loyalty program.

Members have until the earlier of (i) 9 months from his or her flight date or date of qualifying transaction (as applicable) or (ii) September 30, 2024, to request missing MQDs, MQMs, MQSs, and miles with respect to transactions occurring before January 1, 2024. Any requests for retroactive MQDs, MQMs, or MQSs received after this time will not be considered for new or existing SkyMiles Members. Retroactive credit for MQDs, MQMs, MQSs, and miles will be given for Medallion Status earning activities taken within 9 months prior to enrollment in the SkyMiles Program and which flights occurred on or prior to December 31, 2023.

For flights or other qualifying transactions occurring on or after January 1, 2024, Members have until 9 months after their flight date or the date of qualifying transaction (as applicable) to request missing MQDs and miles.

Delta is the final authority on qualification for mileage credit and progress toward Medallion Status and reserves the right to deduct mileage, MQMs, MQSs, and MQDs from a Member’s account at any time if credited in error.

Account Discrepancies

Each Member is responsible for verifying that mileage and MQDs for qualifying activity are credited to his or her account. All account discrepancies must be reported in writing within nine months of date of activity. Each Member should maintain copies of tickets/ticket receipts and boarding pass(es) for his or her records until proper credit appears in his or her SkyMiles statement.

If mileage credit for a qualifying Delta or Delta Connection® flight or qualifying partner activity is not recorded on a Member’s statement within 90 days (30 days for Delta/Delta Connection), please follow these procedures:

For Delta and Delta Connection: Members can request mileage credit online.

For our airline partners: Members can request mileage credit online through the Comment/Complaint form, or can send a copy of their airline ticket/ticket receipt and boarding pass(es) along with their name and SkyMiles number to:

Delta Air Lines, Inc.,
SkyMiles Account Support
Dept. 654
P.O. Box 20532
Atlanta, GA 30320-2532

In order for Delta to approve a mileage credit request, the date-of-birth in the Member’s SkyMiles account must match the date-of-birth of the Member traveling, regardless of who paid for the ticket.

Altered or illegible documents will not be accepted. Alteration of documents or other attempts to obtain mileage credit to which the Member is not entitled are prohibited.

Mileage Accrual and Redemption

Earn on DL and other Airline Partners

Mileage earned for air travel flown as a SkyMiles Member will be calculated as follows:

  • For Delta-marketed (flight numbers that include the “DL” airline code) or certain other Delta-ticketed (featuring a ticket number beginning with “006”) flights, SkyMiles Members will earn miles based on ticket price, at the rate of 5 miles per U.S. Dollar (USD) spent on qualifying fares, including base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but excluding government-imposed taxes and fees. Basic Economy tickets are not eligible to earn miles in the SkyMiles Program or earn MQDs towards Medallion Status.
  • For flights marketed or ticketed by Delta and purchased in a currency other than USD, the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges will be converted to USD based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of ticketing.
  • Miles earned per segment will be calculated based on a pro-rated amount of the total ticket price eligible for mileage accrual and will not be subject to minimum mileage accrual.
  • Flights marketed by Delta’s partner airlines (excluding those issued on 006 ticket stock) earn miles based on a percentage of distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at Airline Partners at the time of travel. Some partners will continue to earn based on both marketing and ticketing carrier.
  • For itineraries ticketed by Delta’s partner airlines that contain both partner-marketed segments and Delta-marketed segments, the partner-marketed segments will earn miles and MQDs based on the distance flown* and fare class paid as published at Airline Partners at the time of travel, and the Delta-marketed segments will earn miles and MQDs based on the total base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges prorated as a percentage of total distance flown.
  • Certain specialty tickets (also referred to as “exception” or “unpublished” fares), including but not limited to bulk, consolidator, cruise, vacation packages (excluding Delta Vacations® packages as of 1/1/24), inclusive tour and other opaque fare products will earn miles and MQDs based on a percentage of distance flown* determined by fare class paid as published at Exception Fares at the time of travel. Members should check with their travel agent or Exception Fares for details.
  • Starting January 1, 2024, Delta Vacation packages will earn miles and MQDs as specified at Delta Vacations Earn Miles.
  • Qualifying tickets purchased through Pay with Miles will earn miles for the portion of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges remaining that is paid in currency after miles are applied to the ticket total.
  • All other ancillary purchases or fees do not count toward earning miles or MQDs, including but not limited to:
    • Checked baggage fees
    • Delta Sky Club memberships
    • Delta Sky Club food and beverage purchases
    • In-flight Wi-Fi passes
    • In-flight food and beverage purchases
    • Unaccompanied minor fees
    • Pet travel fees
    • Mileage purchases and/or mileage transfer fees
    • Ticket change and cancellation fees
    • Direct Ticketing Charges (DTC)
    • Same-day confirmed fees
    • Administrative Service Charges (ASC)
    • External Reissue Charges (ERC)
    • Mileage Upgrade Awards
    • Insurance and trip protection purchases

*For purposes of calculating mileage credit and MQDs, "distance flown" means the calculated distance between origin and destination, as determined by Delta in its sole discretion, regardless of the actual distance traveled on any individual flight.

SkyMiles mileage credit (inclusive of mileage and MQDs) will not be given for the following:

  • Basic Economy tickets.
  • Refunded, void or unused tickets, including unused nonrefundable tickets.
  • Airline employees, travel agents, tour conductors, and/or other persons traveling on a nonrevenue basis or travel industry/cargo customer discount fares (except on discounted fares if indicated when booking).
  • Infants (under age two) traveling without paying an applicable fare, or who are paying an infant fare on an international ticket. Mileage will be credited to the accounts of infants traveling on a ticket purchased at the applicable fare.
  • Free tickets of any kind, including without limitation SkyMiles Award Tickets (except for MQD earn on Award Tickets, as described below).
  • Tickets purchased to carry excess baggage such as musical instruments and pets or to provide extra space for the primary passenger.
  • Charter flights.
  • Tickets issued at fares subject to rules that exclude the earning of mileage credit for the fare. Fares excluded from earning mileage credit frequently change, particularly on Airline Partners. Members should always check with Delta, the issuing carrier or their travel agent at the time of booking to ensure that the fare they are purchasing qualifies for mileage credit.
  • Bookings made through some Internet sites as described at those sites, including without limitation tickets purchased through priceline.com and Hotwire.com.
  • The portion of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges purchased with miles using the Pay with Miles benefit.
  • Travel which U.S. carriers are prohibited from providing or facilitating under U.S. sanctions regulations or other applicable law.
  • Travel on partner-operated flights to destinations that U.S. carriers are prohibited from providing or facilitating under U.S. sanctions regulations or other applicable law.
  • Travel to Cuba on partner-operated flights.

The amount of mileage earned when flying with Delta is subject to change, and the mileage rates in place on the date of travel will apply. For current information on the amount of mileage earned on Delta flights, please visit Earn Miles with Delta.

The amount of mileage earned with airline partners varies from partner to partner and is subject to change, and the mileage rates in place on the date of travel will apply. Alliance partner airline benefits are subject to change and subject to the terms and conditions of each alliance partner. For the current list of our partner airlines and the SkyTeam Global Alliance airlines, and up-to-date information on the amount of mileage earned when flying on our partner airlines, please visit Airline Partners.

Mileage Credit Restrictions

Mileage will be credited only for travel flown by the SkyMiles Member on scheduled service flights. Mileage is credited to the SkyMiles account of the traveler, regardless of who pays for the ticket.

Delta flights, airline partner flights, hotel stays, and car rentals are eligible for credit in only one loyalty program per itinerary and cannot be transferred from one loyalty program to another once recorded. Attempts to obtain  credit in the SkyMiles program as a result of travel or other qualifying activity for which the Member has already received credit in any other mileage or loyalty program is prohibited.

Additional SkyMiles credit restrictions may apply to travel on our partner airlines. For current information on these restrictions, please visit Airline Partners.

Most miles earned through non-airline partner offers are bonus miles. Bonus miles do not count towards Medallion Status or Million Miler Status.

Redemption

Award Travel

SkyMiles Members can redeem miles for Award Travel and many other rewards. Award Travel is limited to two connections per origin and destination for domestic travel and three connections for international travel. Taxes and fees for Award Travel are the responsibility of the passenger and must be paid at the time the ticket is booked. Mileage will automatically be deducted from a Member’s account when completing a mileage redemption transaction.

To safeguard against credit card fraud, some reservations will require Members to come into one of Delta’s ticket office locations to make payment or show Delta representatives their credit card and ID to have the ticket issued. If the Member that is redeeming miles is not traveling, they can show their credit card and ID at any airport ticket counter or ticket office location, whichever is most convenient prior to check-in.

All SkyMiles Award Travel is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract of carriage of the operating carrier.

Domestic and International Award Travel; Ticket Changes

Except as mentioned below, for travel originating from the United States and Canada to anywhere in the world (including flights operated by joint venture and codeshare partners), Members may change the origin, destination, routing, date, and time, or cancel Award tickets for travel without a redeposit or change fee, excluding Basic Economy fares. For some travel originating outside the United States and Canada, Award ticket restrictions will vary and may be non-cancelable or may be changeable for a fee. For details, visit our Baggage & Travel Fees page. Mileage difference, taxes and fees apply for any changes.

Mileage Upgrade Awards may be surrendered, cancelled, reissued or changed any time prior to the scheduled flight departure time. Taxes, fees and any additional collection is based on the rules of the purchased fare.

Ticketing

Award Tickets may be issued only by Delta and only on Delta ticket stock. All other air travel must be ticketed separately from Award Travel. For international Award Travel, if a published routing does not exist between two cities or service is not offered via a published routing, travel must be within the maximum permitted mileage. Completely open tickets will not be issued.

Payment for Award Tickets

When redeeming for award tickets, immediate payment of applicable taxes and fees with a form of payment that is accepted by Delta (e.g., credit or debit card, eCredit, or Delta Gift Card) is required at the time of ticketing.

  • Delta eCredits: eCredits are electronic vouchers that can be applied towards the cost of a Member’s ticket for travel on Delta Air Lines, Delta Connection and Delta designated codeshare flights. They are only valid for payment of tickets and government-imposed taxes and fees. They are not accepted as a form of payment for other types of fees, such as checked baggage and change fees, and they do not have any cash value. Each eCredit has its own set of Terms & Conditions and can vary based on date of issue.

Responsibility for Taxes, Fees & Other Charges

The payment of any taxes, fees, and other government or airport-imposed charges is the responsibility of the passenger. Award Travel tickets will be required to pay the September 11th Security Fee of $5.60 per one-way trip.

Award Travel tickets for international travel, including for travel to/from PR/U.S. Virgin Islands, are required to pay U.S. User Fees (APHIS, INCS and Customs) and September 11th Security Fee of up to $40.00 and foreign user, inspection, security or other similarly based charges, fees or taxes of up to $400, depending on itinerary. In addition, Award redemption requires payment of at least $11.20 in U.S. government taxes and fees for domestic itineraries and may include up to $600 for foreign government taxes and fees and/or carrier-imposed fees for international itineraries. Taxes and fees for Award Travel are the responsibility of the passenger and must be paid at the time the ticket is booked. In some instances, the government may elect to collect the fees directly from the passenger.

Some airline partners charge a fee for Award Travel redemptions for travel on their airlines. These fees, when applicable, are the responsibility of the passenger and will be collected at the time of booking. Additional fees apply for some mileage transactions, for example:

  • Award redemption at an airport ticket location or Delta city ticket office
  • Replacement of lost or stolen tickets
  • Tickets issued by Delta Reservation Sales

Restrictions on Award Travel

The advanced purchase applies to all Award bookings in the affected markets.

Vouchers, eCredit, gift cards, unused tickets, etc., cannot be used on Miles + Cash itineraries.

Mileage purchases (the cash portion) in Miles + Cash transactions are nonrefundable; any refunds for the mileage portion that was purchased in cash would be refunded in Miles. In the event of ticket changes or cancellations, miles, including miles purchased as part of a Miles + Cash transaction, will be redeposited in the Member’s SkyMiles account. Changes to origin, destination, routing, date and time are permitted except for Basic Economy tickets, and the mileage difference (and any applicable taxes) for the new Award ticket will apply.

Award tickets are subject to availability and additional taxes and fees may apply; Award portion is subject to the terms of Award tickets. Redemption requirements for Award tickets differ based upon flight(s) sought. Miles + Cash may not be available in all markets or on all flights.

Pay with Miles

Pay with Miles is a mileage redemption option that allows Members to pay for eligible tickets with miles, money or a combination of both. This option is an exclusive benefit for SkyMiles Members with an eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Card. In some instances, Award Tickets may require fewer miles. Members are prohibited from selling or bartering tickets purchased with the Pay with Miles benefit. Open jaw, routing, stopover and ticket validity rules for Pay with Miles tickets are determined by the fare rules of the ticket purchased. Pay with Miles redemptions can only be made when booking a trip on delta.com. Pay with Miles redemption levels and thresholds are subject to change without notice. Visit Pay with Miles for current redemption options and complete terms and conditions.

Upgrade with Miles

Members can use their miles to pay the difference in a Main Cabin fare and a premium cabin fare for eligible flights within the U.S. 50.

Eligibility

Upgrade with Miles tickets are eligible on select Delta and Delta Connection® carrier flights booked under the DL code at delta.com, the Fly Delta app, or Delta Reservations.

In addition to the miles and MQDs the Member will earn on the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges of the original fare, Members who upgrade with Miles are also eligible to earn MQDs on the miles applied to the upgrade, calculated by dividing the total miles used for the upgrade divided by 100.

Restrictions

Redemption requirements may differ based on fare. The amount of miles that can be used on an Upgrade with Miles ticket is based on the SkyMiles Member's account balance. Any miles used will be automatically and permanently deducted from the Member's SkyMiles account at the time of the redemption. For reservations that include multiple passengers, only one SkyMiles account may be used to redeem for an Upgrade with Miles ticket. Upgrade with Miles applies to all passengers in the reservation. Not combinable with certificates, eCredits, vouchers, or with any other discounts. Mileage credit will be earned based on the cash amount of the ticket purchased (base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges remaining and paid in currency after miles are applied to the ticket total). All Upgrade with Miles are subject to availability, and additional taxes and fees may apply. All fare rules, restrictions, advance purchase requirements, and availability are per rules of the upgraded ticket purchased.

Refunds/Reissues

Except for tickets refunded under Delta's Risk Free Cancellation policy, miles redeemed for Upgrade with Miles tickets cannot be re-deposited in the Member's SkyMiles Account — even for fully refundable fares. If a ticket is reissued after using Upgrade with Miles and the reissued ticket, less applicable fees, costs less than the original ticket, then the difference between the original price of the ticket purchased using Upgrade with Miles and the reissued ticket price will issued as a nonrefundable eCredit valid for future travel. eCredit will be valid for 1 year from original Upgrade with Miles ticket issue date. If a Member changes his or her unused Upgrade with Miles ticket, then the Upgrade with Miles terms and conditions will apply to the new ticket.

In the event of a refund (including fully refundable fares) only the paid portion of a refundable fare will be credited back to the credit card, and the Upgrade with Miles portion of the fare will be returned as non-refundable eCredit equivalent to the dollar value of the portion of the ticket redeemed with Upgrade with Miles. eCredit may be used to purchase future travel and Upgrade with Miles terms and conditions will not apply to such tickets. For non-refundable tickets, all fare rules apply.

In the event of a valid ticket cancellation under Delta's Risk Free Cancellation policy, Upgrade with Miles portion of the fare that was paid in miles will be redeposited into the Member's SkyMiles account and the paid portion of the fare will be credited back to the credit card.

For more details about Upgrade with Miles, please visit Upgrade with Miles.

Other

Partner Airlines

Rules for Award Travel on other SkyMiles partner airlines may vary. The prices and benefits for each Award and each partner airline are subject to change at any time and are subject to the terms and conditions of each partner airline. Some airline partners impose a surcharge on Award Travel redemptions for travel on their airline. These charges, when applicable, are the responsibility of the passenger and will be collected at the time of booking.

Partially Used Award Tickets

Once travel has commenced on an Award ticket, the Award is considered used. Mileage will not be credited back to the account for the unused portion of the ticket.

Medallion Program

Medallion Status Qualification

SkyMiles Members may qualify for elite benefits and status by earning Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) toward Medallion Status. MQDs are earned by the Member who is flying (whose name and SkyMiles number are listed on the ticket) regardless of who booked or paid for the flight. Members who would like to track their MQDs balance should visit the My SkyMiles page or view them in the Fly Delta app in the SkyMiles section. Basic Economy tickets are not eligible to earn miles in the SkyMiles Program or earn credit towards Medallion Status.

Effective January 1, 2024, for the 2025 Medallion Year, all SkyMiles members, regardless of country of residence, will earn Medallion Status in accordance with the number of MQDs earned during the Medallion Qualification Year.

Effective January 1, 2024, for the 2025 Medallion Year, Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) and Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) will not be calculated or used to determine Medallion Status qualification. MQDs are awarded based on United States Dollars for qualifying transactions; purchases made in other currencies will be converted to USD based on the IATA 5-day currency exchange rate at the time of ticketing for purposes of awarding MQDs.

MQD Qualifying Spend

Earning MQDs on Flight Fares

SkyMiles Members can earn MQDs on Delta-marketed flights in Main Cabin or above (flight numbers that include the “DL” airline code), inclusive of the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges, but exclusive of government-imposed taxes and fees. Basic Economy tickets are not eligible to earn MQDs. If a Delta One, Delta Premium Select, First Class, or Delta Comfort+ paid upgrade or Preferred Seat is purchased at the airport in Amsterdam (AMS), or Paris (CDG) for a Delta-operated flight, the Member will not earn miles or MQDs. If a Member purchases a Delta Comfort+, a paid premium cabin upgrade or Preferred Seat and Delta is not able to accommodate the Member in that seat or a similar seat, the Member’s purchase will be refunded and no MQDs will be awarded. If a customer voluntarily changes his/her flight or seat selection once purchased, a refund for the original seat purchase will not be provided and no MQDs will be awarded. MQDs will not be awarded for complimentary access to Delta One, Delta Premium Select, First Class, Delta Comfort+ and Preferred Seats. MQDs may only be earned by the Member traveling whose name and SkyMiles number are included in the reservation.

SkyMiles Members can also earn MQDs on the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges for travel marketed by Core Global and Global Airline Partners and ticketed through a Delta channel (featuring a ticket number beginning with “006”). For travel ticketed and marketed by Core Global and Global Airline Partners, MQDs will be awarded based on published Mileage Earn Charts at the Earning Miles With Airline Partners page.

Certain specialty tickets (also referred to as “exception” or “unpublished” fares),including but not limited to bulk, consolidator, cruise, vacation packages (excluding Delta Vacations® packages, which as of January 1, 2024, are subject to a new calculation method for MQDs), inclusive tour and other tickets where the fare is not disclosed, will also earn MQDs. However, bookings made through priceline.com or hotwire.com where the carrier is not disclosed prior to purchase are not eligible for MQDs. MQDs will be earned based on a percentage of distance flown as determined by the fare class paid as published at the time of travel. Refer to Earning Miles with Exceptions Fares. Please visit the section regarding qualifying earn on Delta Vacations packages for specific details of the MQD calculation on those fares. Delta employee award travel, free, barter, pass travel and other similar tickets not eligible for mileage accrual will not earn MQDs.

With respect to paid upgrades, if a customer voluntarily changes his/her seat once purchased, a refund for the original seat purchased as an ancillary product will not be provided and MQDs will be awarded only for the fare actually flown by the customer.

Earning MQDs on Award Tickets

Beginning January 1, 2024, SkyMiles Members can earn MQDs on Award tickets operated by Delta and Delta Global Airline Partners, in Main Cabin (or equivalent) or above, when booked through any direct Delta channel. MQDs will be calculated based on miles redeemed toward the Award Ticket price divided by 100. Government-imposed taxes and fees do not earn MQDs.

Earning MQDs using Cobrand Cards

SkyMiles Members can earn MQDs when using their eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Cards on everyday purchases. For information on how to earn, exclusions, and term and conditions, visit How to Reach Medallion Status.

Starting on January 1, 2024, Delta SkyMiles American Express Gold Card, Delta SkyMiles American Express Card, Delta SkyMiles Diners Club Card, Delta SkyMiles JCB Gold Card, Delta SkyMiles JCB Card, Delta SkyMiles Takeoff JCB Card, Delta SkyMiles TRUST CLUB Platinum VISA Card, and Delta SkyMiles TRUST CLUB Gold VISA Card Members will be eligible to earn one (1) MQD for each 1,000 Japanese Yen of eligible purchases charged to one of these cards during a Qualification Year. Silver Medallion Members earn two additional miles per dollar (for a total of seven), Gold Medallion Members earn an additional three miles per dollar (for a total of eight), Platinum Medallion Members earn four additional miles per dollar (for a total of nine), and Diamond Medallion Members earn six additional miles per dollar (for a total of eleven). Ticket price eligible for mileage accrual includes base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges but excludes government-imposed taxes and fees. Medallion mileage bonus per USD spent is based on Medallion Status at the time of travel.  Basic Economy tickets are not eligible to earn miles in the SkyMiles Program or earn credit towards Medallion Status.

Medallion Benefits

Medallion Benefits Terms

Medallion Members receive certain benefits in connection with their status. Benefit descriptions, and the terms and conditions associated with each benefit, are set forth on the Medallion Benefits associated with each tier of Medallion Status. Benefits eligibility is determined by Medallion Status on the day of travel, regardless of Status at the time of booking. Benefits are subject to change or suspension at any time, without advance notice, in Delta’s sole discretion.

Complimentary Upgrades

Unlimited Complimentary Upgrades

Except with respect to Basic Economy (E) fares (regardless of Medallion or other elite status), Medallion Members and select partner airline elite members and up to one companion who is a SkyMiles member traveling on the same reservation may be eligible for complimentary seat upgrade access to Delta Comfort+, First Class, and exclusively for domestic US flights, Delta One and Delta Premium Select seats, within a specified time prior to departure based on the applicable complimentary window of the highest SkyMiles Medallion Member in the same reservation. If the Medallion is no longer traveling on their original reservation, the companion traveling on the original reservation will no longer be eligible for complimentary premium seating upgrade, and they will be reassigned to their originally ticketed class of service.

Complimentary premium seats are not available for selection by any passenger while onboard the aircraft regardless of Medallion Status or fare class. Medallion complimentary upgrades are subject to availability and may not be available on all flights or in all markets.

For Medallion Members who purchase an extra seat, Medallion complimentary upgrades will not be cleared automatically or in advance. Members may request a Medallion Complimentary Upgrade at the gate, then, if cleared, the Medallion Complimentary Upgrade will only apply to one seat, and the extra seat will be forfeited by accepting the upgrade.

MQDs will not be awarded for complimentary seat upgrades. Delta is not liable for failure to process any upgrade or for processing upgrades outside the priority order. Delta reserves the right to limit inventory made available for upgrades on any flight for any reason, to delay processing upgrades for available seats until the check-in window or at the gate, and to assign or reassign a seat at any time, even after boarding of the aircraft, for operational, safety or security reasons. Available seats within the seat map does not necessarily mean these seats are part of inventory available for upgrades. The final decision resides with the ground staff and operating crew on the day of the flight.

Complimentary Preferred Seats

Preferred Seating may be offered on Delta and Delta Connection® flights, subject to availability. Except with respect to Basic Economy fares, Preferred Seats are complimentary for Medallion Members, SkyTeam Elite and SkyTeam Elite Plus members and their companions when they are booked in the same reservation. MQDs will not be awarded for complimentary access to Preferred Seats. Customers seated in the bulkhead row may be reassigned to accommodate passengers with disabilities. We reserve the right to assign or reassign a Preferred Seat at any time, even after boarding of the aircraft, for operational, safety or security reasons; the final decision resides with ground staff and operating crew on the day of the flight.

Choice Benefits

Members who earn Diamond or Platinum Medallion Status for the applicable Medallion Year are eligible to select Choice Benefits immediately after the Choice Benefits selection window for such Medallion Year becomes available.

For full terms and conditions, please visit Choice Benefits.

SkyTeam® Lounge Access

Complimentary access to most worldwide SkyTeam lounges is available to Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion Members when traveling in any cabin on a same-day international SkyTeam-operated flight, excluding Basic Economy tickets. Members must present SkyMiles membership card and their same-day ticket for an international SkyTeam-operated flight or same-day domestic SkyTeam-operated flight connecting to an international SkyTeam-operated flight for SkyTeam lounge access. SkyTeam lounge benefits are provided only at the departure airport and not at the arrival airport unless connecting to a qualifying SkyTeam flight. One guest allowed.

Medallion Status Exceptions for U.S. Military Members

Members of the United States Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard who were not able to use their Medallion Status or did not requalify for Medallion Status as a result of their deployment are eligible for a one-time Medallion Status extension. Upon return from deployment, military members are eligible to extend their Medallion Status for one additional Medallion year upon providing a copy of their deployment orders. For example, if the extension was granted anytime in 2023, the Member’s Medallion Status will be maintained until the end of the 2024 Medallion Year on January 31, 2025. If the extension is granted anytime in 2024, the Member’S Medallion Status will be maintained until the end of the 2025 Medallion Year on January 31, 2026. The Medallion Status request can be submitted once the military member returns home from deployment. Requests may not be made before or during deployment.

Any deployment will qualify, regardless of length, as long as it takes place during the time they have Medallion Status. Members do not currently need to be on active duty to request an exception. Reserve members are eligible.

To submit a request:

  1. Fill out the Reclaim My Status form
  2. In the "Reason for Losing Status" field, select "Other"
  3. In the open response field, please indicate that Medallion Status was lost due to military service
  4. Attach Member’s deployment orders to the form
  5. Select "Submit Your Request"

Requests will typically be reviewed and processed within five business days, but please allow up to two weeks. Upon approval of a request, a Member will see his or her updated Medallion Status reflected in his or her account on the My SkyMiles page  or in the SkyMiles section of the Fly Delta app. Member will be notified of approval through the e-mail address in his or her SkyMiles account. Members who wish to update their e-mail address can visit My Profile.

Miscellaneous

Rollover MQM Conversion

As of January 1, 2024, SkyMiles members will no longer earn Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs). MQMs and MQSs will not be calculated or used to determine Medallion Status qualification. Beginning Feb 28, 2024, SkyMiles members possessing a Rollover MQM balance after qualification for 2024 Medallion Status will have the option to convert their final Rollover MQM balance (earned up to December 31, 2023, at 11:59:59 PM CST) into miles, MQDs, or, for Rollover MQM balances of 100,000 MQMs and higher, into Medallion Status extensions (or a combination of all, if applicable).

If miles are selected, the Rollover MQM balance will be converted at a ratio of 1 mile per 2 MQMs. If MQDs are selected, the Rollover MQM balance will be converted at a ratio of 1 MQD per 10 MQMs. SkyMiles members can split their Rollover MQM balance conversion between miles and MQDs based on 25% increments, and subject to the conversion ratios in the previous sentence. For example, a SkyMiles member can elect to convert 25% of their Rollover MQM balance into miles and the remainder 75% into MQDs.

SkyMiles Members with a Rollover MQM balance at or greater than 100,000 MQMs also have the option to extend their earned 2024 Medallion Status using their Rollover MQMS at a rate of 100,000 MQMs per one year of Status extension. Using the 100,000:1 ratio, Members may select the number of years of Status extension they desire, up to the number for which they are eligible. Medallion Status will not be awarded for partial years; any Rollover MQMs exceeding a 100,000 threshold, and which are not used for Status extension, can be converted into miles or MQDs using the applicable conversion rate above. For example, a SkyMiles Member that has 550,00 Rollover MQMs and who has earned Diamond Medallion Status for the 2024 Medallion Qualification Year is eligible to extend their Diamond Medallion Status for up to 5 years (500,000 Rollover MQMs) and can elect to convert the remaining 50,000 Rollover MQMs into miles, MQDs, or a combination of both at the conversion rates above.

If a SkyMiles member does not make a selection by December 31, 2024 11:59:59 PM CST, all Rollover MQMs will automatically be converted to MQDs. Members will be able to select their conversion preference until the selection window closes on December 31, 2024 11:59:59 PM CST. Miles/MQDs and Medallion Status extension are nontransferable and can only be credited to the SkyMiles member’s account who was in possession of the Rollover MQMs. Selections are final, irrevocable, and not changeable.

Million Miler Program

Starting January 1, 2024 Million Miler Status will be determined based on flown flight miles. For Members who have lifetime MQMs, any MQMs already earned towards Million Miler Status will remain solely for purposes of this calculation, and any flight miles earned after January 1, 2024 will be added to that Member’s existing Million Miler balance. Flight miles flown on flights marketed by Delta’s partner airlines will also count towards Million Miler Status, except for Basic Economy and similar fares.

For additional information, visit Million Miler Status.

Delta reserves the right to terminate the SkyMiles program with six months’ prior notice. Unless otherwise stated, the terms and conditions of the SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules in effect at the time of a Member’s travel or request for a benefit will govern the transaction.
