Certificates, eCredits and Gift Cards

Certificates & eCredits

Whether they're printed on paper or sent to you electronically, Delta Certificates and eCredits give you a number of ways to save big on your upcoming trips.

What types of Certificates and eCredits are there?

Delta eCerts can be redeemed for a variety of money-saving offers on eligible flights, including:

  • A specific dollar amount off the cost of an eligible fare
  • A specific percentage off the cost of an eligible fare
  • A specific percentage off the number of miles required to purchase an Award ticket
  • A travel certificate that covers the cost of a ticket and requires the customer to only pay applicable taxes and fees, including Flight Certificates earned through a Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card welcome or other promotional offer.
    • Card Members who have earned promotional Flight Certificates should check their Certificate terms and conditions for details and restrictions including expiration dates, advance purchase requirements, and eligible destinations.
  • A complimentary upgrade, such as to the Delta First or Business Class cabin
  • Companion Certificates are exclusive to Delta SkyMiles® Platinum, Platinum Business, Reserve and Reserve Business American Express Card Members.
    • Delta Platinum and Platinum Business Card Members receive one Companion Certificate for a Delta Main round-trip flight within the U.S. and to Mexico, the Caribbean or Central America each year after renewal of their Card.
    • Delta Reserve and Reserve Business Card Members receive one Companion Certificate for a Delta First, Delta Comfort or Delta Main round-trip flight within the U.S. and to Mexico, the Caribbean or Central America each year after renewal of their Card.
  • The Companion Certificate requires payment of government-imposed taxes and fees of between $22 and $250 (for itineraries with up to four flight segments). Baggage charges and other restrictions apply. Delta Basic experiences are not eligible for this benefit. Learn more.

eCredits are a specific monetary value that can be applied as payment toward the cost of a Delta ticket and any government-imposed taxes and fees. Examples of an eCredit include:

  • Unused or partially used tickets
  • Remaining value of an unused post-purchase seat upgrade or Preferred Seat
  • Delta Travel Voucher received when a ticket exchange results in residual (remaining) value
  • Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card $200 Flight Credit
  • Delta Dollars received for denied boarding compensation from an oversold flight
  • Transportation Credit Voucher received as compensation for a service issue
  • Miscellaneous Charge Order generally received when an ticket exchange results in residual value and the original form of payment for the ticket was other than a credit card
  • eGift Certificates

Currently, eCredits may only be applied toward future Delta ticket purchases, but this is the first step in the direction of offering you more flexibility with eCredits in the future. When you redeem Certificates or eCredits at delta.com there is no transaction fee. You can also redeem them at any Delta ticketing location, but additional fees may apply. eCredits, including the Delta SkyMiles® Gold Amex $200 Flight Credit, may not be combined with any forms of mileage redemption, whether full or partial, such as Award Travel or Miles + Cash tickets. Most Certificates and eCredits cannot be redeemed at travel agencies, other airlines or other travel websites, please refer to the terms and conditions for details.

Can I combine the eCredits and Certificates I already have?

You can combine an eCredit with a Companion Certificate, available through the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve, Reserve Business, Platinum or Platinum Business American Express Card. If you wish to combine a Certificate and eCredits, you must first select your Certificate and then add your eCredits at checkout.

You may not be able to combine an eCredit with a Flight Certificate received via a Delta SkyMiles® American Express welcome or other promotional offer.

You cannot combine a Certificate with another Certificate.

To redeem an eCredit or Companion Certificate on a Delta Vacations package, navigate to “Certificates, eCredits, & Vouchers” on your SkyMiles profile or call Delta Vacations Reservations at 1-800-800-1504.

If my eCredit covers the cost of my ticket, why do I need to provide credit card information?

Credit card information is required for all flight purchases.

What happens when I use a Companion Certificate, American Express promotional Flight Certificate, or an eCredit, but need to cancel my flight?

  • Companion Certificate
    • If either the unused primary ticket or companion ticket is canceled, both tickets will be canceled, and the companion ticket can be reissued. Companion Certificates are valid for 1 year from the original date the certificate was issued.
  • Promotional Delta SkyMiles Amex Card Flight Certificates
    • If you cancel within the 24-hour risk-free period, your Flight Certificate will be automatically reissued and any taxes and fees will be refunded to your original form of payment. If you cancel after the 24-hour risk-free period, you must message or call Delta Reservations to have your Flight Certificate reissued, and any applicable taxes and fees will be returned as an eCredit.
    • If a partially flown ticket is cancelled, the remaining portion of the Certificate will be forfeited and will not be returned to the customer’s wallet for future use.
  • eCredits
    • For unused, canceled tickets paid for via an eCredit, your original eCredit is restored to your account after the deduction of any applicable cancellation fees.

When do eCredits expire?

If Delta cancels or significantly delays or changes your flight and you choose not to rebook an alternative flight, you can choose to receive an eCredit instead of a refund. This eCredit is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. If you voluntarily cancel your flight (without a significant travel disruption caused by Delta, as outlined above), your eCredit will be valid for 1 year from the original ticket date, minus any applicable cancellation fees.

How do I get an eCredit?

If your flight is canceled or significantly delayed or changed, you can choose to receive an eCredit instead of a refund for unflown portions of your ticket and any pre-paid seat upgrade or Preferred Seat. This eCredit is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance.

What are the terms and conditions of my eCredit?
